Welcome to our website!
This page is maintained by the Funkadelic Four, an eCybermission team of 8th grade students from the Harker School working to educate people about and prevent the spread of MRSA. eCybermission is an online math and science competition that challenges teams to recognize and propose a solution to a problem in their community. MRSA stands for Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus - you've probably heard about it in the news. It is a dangerous infection that is resistant to several classes of antibiotics. Most often contracted through breaks in the skin, it can also (but more infrequently) infect your airway, ears, nose, etc. We feel that it is a threat to our community and that, by being educated on MRSA and its symptoms and treatment, the public can be better prepared to deal with individual cases of it.
We think that MRSA is a big problem in our community because the number of MRSA cases has doubled over past years, and 1.2 million people are infected yearly. Now, more people are dying from MRSA than from AIDS. However, many of these cases could have be easily prevented. This website gives such tips, so it is worthwhile to look through with your family. Also, spread the word-- tell others about this page so that they don't contract the infection.
